Experience
I enjoy tutoring and have developed my teaching skills through experience, working initially as a camp counselor and later as an English teacher for the Peace Corps in Mozambique. With a Bachelor of Science from the University of Mary Washington and experience giving farm-based eco tours, I see tutoring as an opportunity to share my sense of wonder with the biological world and its workings with my students. I believe that breaking down difficult concepts into their core components and then working up to more complex concepts can help students master the knowledge they need. This takes advantage of their natural curiosity and allows for the inclusion of students' own interests. My science background means that I am able to tutor students in IB Biology SL and HL, IB Chemistry SL and HL, Earth and Environmental Science, and Ecology. My experience as an English teacher gives me the background needed to help learners with subjects like Reading, Writing, Grammar, and Literature. I am also skilled in teaching Spanish 1 and 2.When I'm not working with students, I enjoy learning and staying active. I study Japanese, play the piano, read, and swim.
